Sri
Seronok Retirement Village,
the first and only retirement home of its kind, was estsblished
in 1988 and is located in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur. Sri Seronok enables
elderly single persons and couples to live in comfortable, self-contained
units, surrounded by landscaped gardens within a secure and friendly
environment.
On
walking into the two-acre compund, Sri Seronok feels like a
holiday resort. "To qualify as a resident here, you need to
be at least 55 years old and be able to look after yourself,"
says manager Michael Revi, 66, who also stays at Sri Seronok.
"Most of them do their own cooking, while some cater their food.
It's a five minute walk to the shops where there's a morning
market every Wednesday." "All residents are self-sufficient
and we are proud of this because Sri Seronok's aim is to foster
and maintain a sense of dignity and independence among the elderly,"
he adds.
Residents
can be seen as early as 6.30am taking ther morning walks and
exercises before breakfast. Later, some of them visit each other,
watch TV, cook or relax. Unlike old folks homes, there is no
schedule of activities or fixed visiting hours at Sri Seronok.
Peace
& Freedom
One of the residents who have lived there for over three years,
chose Sri Seronok for its open yet safe atmosphere, thanks to
the unique architectural layout and 24-hour security.
"I
didn't want to live in a ahouse with fencing and grilles, so
this is just nice and spacious. Our children, who were initially
puzzled by our decision to stay here instead of with them, are
very supportive," says a resident.
Comfortable
& Happy
Sri
Seronok residents are a happy and contented community, enjoying
their golden years in a comfortable, safe and serene environment.
